5 Supplements you need to know about!

It can be a struggle to choose the right supplements for your body when starting your fitness & health journey.

It’s important that you talk with your doctor or dietician before adding any supplements to your diet.

Below are 5 supplements that we love for physical performance

1. MULTIVITAMIN

A high quality multi-vitamin can help you get the nutrients that your body needs for physical performance. This doesn’t mean that you can skip out on fresh fruits & veggies, but taking a multi-vitamin will ensure that your body receives the nutrients it needs in case your diet falls short. There are many multivitamin options available, and varies based on personal circumstances including pregnancy, women, mens, women over 50+, athletes, etc.

2. OMEGA-3

One of our favorites! These fatty acids not only aide in reducing triglyceride levels & keeping your arteries clear, but they are also known to be great with muscle recovery. Foods that are rich Omega-3’s include but not limited to mackerel, salmon, sardines, flax seeds, chia seeds, & walnuts. A great way to supplement in addition to these great foods is with a high quality fish oil.

3. BCAA

Great for during & post work out! BCAA’s are a mix of 3 amino acids including leucine, isoleucine and valine which are all important for muscle recovery & repair. We are loving the various Pro BCAA flavors that our friends over at Max Muscle San Mateo have including watermelon, fruit punch, & many others!

4. GLUTAMINE

A great supplement to add to your work-outs. Our bodies produce glutamine naturally but it can be moved out of our muscles during an intense workout. Some of our favorite glutamine rich foods include red meats, nuts, milk, fish, & beans. If you tend to have intense workouts, taking a glutamine supplement in addition to your daily intake from foods may help boost muscle building.

5. WHEY-PROTEIN POWDER

Your primary source of protein should come from food. However, it’s a good idea to add this staple into your meal plan if you are trying to build muscle. There are so many options out there besides Whey, and it can be a struggle to find the right protein powder that works best for you. Try to stick to a protein powder that has few ingredients, is low in calories, & doesn’t have a ton of sugary crap and you will be good to go.
